Our Occupational Therapist Leah
Did you know Discovery has a dedicated Occupational Therapist (Leah) employed to develop, implement, and provide training to all educators on the delivery of regulation activities and how to best utilise our Engine Room.
Educators have engaged in professional development led by Leah during staff meetings. We recognise that we all actually have 8 senses, which include proprioception (our muscles) and vestibular (our inner balance). Leah has worked extensively with educators, modelling how to engage children in a variety of exercises and movements. Leah also models to educators how to use visual supports with the children, including first/then boards, the Alert program and visual schedules, all aimed at increasing the children’s ability to regulate.
