The Bird Nest
Over the past few months there has been a strong interest in birds in the Nursery. You can imagine the excitement when the children discovered a birds nest in the Lilly Pilly hedge! The children put bird seeds into the bird house for the Mummy bird, and the older children came to see the nest, remembering not to disturb the bird.
We discussed how birds make their nests without having hands. Zoe remembered that “some birds use their feet to collect small sticks.” Zaylee remembered “they use their mouth as well.” In the Preschool Room, we collected sticks and everyone had a turn at putting their hands behind their back and trying to pick up a stick with only their feet! Now the children are using the sticks and clay to make their own birds nest.
